Career & Professional Swedish

Kim Beecheno (Uppsala University)

Kim wrote the following when she contacted us:

“My name is Kim, I am a researcher at Uppsala University and I have lived in Sweden for nearly 6 years. I finished the courses the university offers up to ‘Swedish for Academics 4’ which brings me up to a B2 level more or less. I am married to a Swede and understand most of what my husband and son talk about when they speak Swedish together. I speak mainly Swedish with my mother in law, so I feel quite confident in speaking when I’m out and about, but I know I have gaps in my knowledge e.g. in grammar, and I want to increase my vocabulary and improve written Swedish. I am wondering if private lessons will help me reach a better level faster rather than another group class.

Kim’s lessons have been tailored to her professional background and research interests, with a focus on written accuracy, listening comprehension, and speaking skills.

Thanks to her rapid language development, she is now able to work professionally as a researcher in the sociology of religion almost entirely in Swedish. In her role at Stockholm School of Theology, she supervises bachelor’s students, teaches, and communicates with management in Swedish.

She has also recently completed a job interview in Swedish for a position at the Swedish Research Council.

Kim’s review:

I found 'The Swedish Teacher' online and decided to give it a go - the booking system was very easy so I did a trial consultation and had a good feeling about Sara after discussing my aims. We have focused on speaking, fluency and vocab by reading articles, discussing them and making written summaries. Even my colleagues have noticed a clear improvement in my Swedish and I feel much more confident than before. Sara adapted readily to my needs and interests and I am continuing my lessons with her as I am so pleased with the results. I would gladly recommend Sara as a teacher and the company itself. I have found the whole process straightforward and enjoyable, and most importantly, my Swedish is clearly getting better.
