Our mission at The Swedish Teacher is to help our students achieve their goals with the Swedish language. Since 2009, we have guided students to become as proficient in Swedish as they wish, using professional teaching, customized programs, individual coaching, and great empathy. Whether for work, at home, while traveling, with family, or for any other purpose, we are passionate about supporting your development right where you are.

More than just language teachers
What our students have in common is that they want to learn Swedish. However, there are many reasons for studying Swedish. Some want to study in Sweden, while others want to work. Many of our students are Swedes living abroad who want to keep the Swedish language alive in their families. We support and assist you—whether with language tests, navigating Swedish culture, working in Sweden, or living as part of the Swedish minority abroad. All our teachers also have different areas of expertise, allowing you to find the right teacher for your specific needs.
Our approach
How it works
You always start by booking an initial meeting with us. During this 30-minute session, you will meet a teacher, and we will try to match you with the right instructor from the beginning. In this meeting, you will share why you want to learn Swedish, what your prior knowledge is, and what you aim to achieve. Together, we will create a plan where you can choose the number of lessons and their duration. We ensure that the plan is tailored to your
goals and circumstances— financially and time-wise. We will check in regularly to see if the course is at the right level, how you feel about it, and whether you want to continue.
Our story
The Swedish Teacher was founded in 2009 by Sara Hörberg.
“I had trained in Swedish as a second language, linguistics, and pedagogy, and had worked for almost ten years as a teacher for adults at Folkuniversitet. I developed a taste for individualized and tailored teaching when I taught medical Swedish to healthcare staff and other professionals at their workplaces.
